Flyers Can Change Their Name On Air Canada Flight Tickets To Follow These Steps

In this guide, we will discuss Air Canada Name Change policy. Air Canada hadn’t had any name change policy before 2015. It was only when New Name Change Flexibility came in 2015. Thus this post exclusively details the same, here.

Thus for anything related to the Air Canada name change process, stick to the material because it is the ultimate thing on the same. However, in case you are looking for making a name change request, call us at +1-877-805-0998 and get your name changed on any of your Air Canada bookings.

Air Canada Name Change Procedure — What is the Way?

On most airlines, name changes are not allowed to be made. Thus, passengers have to resort to a really cumbersome alternative, that is, first canceling the reservation and then booking a new one with the desired name, which you wanted to be on your canceled reservation. However, it is not the case with Air Canada. On Air Canada, it is allowed to change your name after making the reservation.

In some cases, a name change fee applies, while in others, it doesn’t. So, what do you do to exactly make a name change to your Air Canada itinerary?

Simple, you just need to dial the TFN +1-877-805-0998 and get it done for you; there is no online way to deal with it so you have got to use the TFN.

Air Canada Name Change Policy (2015’s amendment)

Air Canada brought in its New Name Change Flexibility in 2015; that was an amendment to the then-existing Name Change Policy of Air Canada. And this amendment discussed all of the things mentioned below; the amendment in 2015 related to Air Canada’s name change policy was weaved around but only the following things:

All Published fares;

All Latitude fares;

Business Class Flexible fare;

Business Class Lowest and Flex fares;

Flex fares including a Corporate Contact number or Air Canada Corporate Rewards tour code;

Booking by aircanada.com/agents or an approved ac2u channel; and,

Bookings through the use of the GDS.

If you know every bit of what we have mentioned above, Air Canada Name Change Policy is going to be a piece of cake for you.

Now let’s right dive deep into the original subject matter of the year 2015’s amendment to Air Canada Name Change Policy:

Air Canada Name Change Policy — Regarding Published Fares

Under New Name Change Flexibility, the 2015’s policy update, there is a specific section that dedicatedly deals with the all-published-fares element. To make it a bit clear to those who don’t know, Published fares are those that are available for people at large for sale.

In other words, if fares are published, you can purchase them for your desired benefits. Thus, in short, fares for sale at large are referred to as published fares.

Anyways,  now, let’s get back to our policy. With respect to published fares, in 2015’s amendment, it is written that you can change your name on Air Canada tickets for such fare types. However, that is only true on the fulfillment of the following conditions.

The ticket was originally purchased for a flight within Canada; and,

The flight available on the ticket is served by Air Canada or Air Canada Express.

And, thus on the satisfaction of all the conditions above, if your Air Canada ticket holds a published fare, you are eligible to make a name change request without any charges; on that, it doesn’t matter when your ticket was first issued to you.

Air Canada Name Change Policy — The Amendment in 2015 and its Retrospectivity

In the above section, we implicitly mentioned a bit that the update New Name Change Flexibility was retrospective in its nature. A retrospective law is one that even applies to the past.

For example, suppose you purchased an Air Canada ticket that was refundable at the time of purchase. Still, after your purchase, Air Canada changed its refund policy and announced that from then on, the fare you purchase would stand non-refundable for ages. And, the update not only applied to all the reservations yet to be made in the time to come but to you too.

In that case, the update is retrospective in nature. That means not just it applies to the future but also to the past. So, similar is the case with 2015’s Air Canada Name Change Policy update.

To make it a bit clearer, it means if someone had already made a reservation before the amendment in 2015 and they wanted to make a name change to such a reservation once the update was introduced, then even they could do it because of the reason that the update was retrospective in nature.

The following line was in the update at the time of the announcement — “regardless of the ticket issuance date.”

Air Canada Name Change Policy — Regarding Latitude Fares

Air Canada offers a total of five types of cabin classes on the flights it uses to operate. These are as follows:

Economy

Premium Economy

Signature/Business

Economy Rouge

Premium Rouge

And, not just that, further there are different fare types too under each cabin class. For example, if we take Economy and mention all the fare types that this cabin class offers, we have as follows:

Basic

Standard

Flex

Comfort

Latitude

Similarly, there might be some cabin classes too that offer the latitude fare type under them. Therefore the amendment in 2015 named New Name Change Flexibility, which is currently Air Canada Name Change On Ticket, also holds something for Latitude fares.

Under a cabin, if it offers a latitude fare, latitude is the most premium cabin fare. It entails much flexibility and perks, including any other exclusive inflight benefits too like priority boarding, enhanced inflight entertainment, servings of premium beverages, etc.

Air Canada’s Name Change Policy states that if an Air Canada flyer has purchased a Latitude fared seating option, they are allowed to change their name on their bookings at will with Air Canada. However, that isn’t free of any conditions. To be eligible for that, you have to satisfy the following conditions first.

Air Canada Name Change Policy — Regarding Conditions to be Fulfilled on Name Change Eligibility for Latitude Fares.

Above, we discussed that all Latitude fares are allowed to change their name on Air Canada reservations as long as only the original purchaser of the ticket is going to travel on the ticket. And further, it is also mentioned there that that is true only if certain conditions exist.

Now, let’s discuss those conditions:

The first condition: the travel area-related condition, and,

The second condition: the airline-related condition.

The First Condition under Air Canada Name Change Policy

The first condition that all the Latitude fared ticket owners have to fulfill before being eligible for making a name change request is that the ticket purchased has to be but only for the travel to the U.S. and Sun Destinations, which is a name for a whole bunch of African tourist destinations.

Thus that is it. If your Air Canada travel is going to be to the United States, you can change your name on Air Canada bookings. And, that is free of cost; you don’t have to pay any additional charges for that. And similar is the case with Sun Destinations, too; in the case of Sun Destinations, you don’t have to pay any fee for a name change as well, and thus you can make a name change request regarding your Air Canada booking free of cost.

That is it; this is the first condition, under Air Canada Name Change Policy, to be satisfied first before a Latitude fare holder becomes eligible for making a Name Change Request.

The Second Condition under Air Canada Name Change Policy

The second condition is related to Airlines, that is, Latitude fare holders can only be entitled to the power of making a name change to their reservations if their flights are offered by any of the following airlines:

Thus if you are going to use Air Canada for your upcoming travel provided that you booked your flight by the Economy latitude fare option and you want to change your name on your booking, you are eligible to use the name change mechanism on Air Canada to make a name change request and get your name changed on your desired Air Canada reservations.

Similarly, you can also make a name change to your Air Canada booking, which is Economy latitude or any other latitude fare options, if your flight is offered by Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge.

With that said, that is all Air Canada Name Change Policy talks about Latitude fares for the name change eligibility.
